Abstract:
Pura Dalem Purnajati Tanjung Puri is one of the Hindu temples in Jakarta where Balinese observe and perform worship. However,
in practice, Pura Dalem Purnajati Tanjung Puri is also used to run cultural tradition such as ngayah. Ngayah tradition is a social
obligation which is carried out as a form of mutual assistance. This study aimed to examine the communication behavior of Balinese
diaspora in Jakarta in performing ngayah. The type of research is qualitative and the approach is ethnography of communication.
Data were collected through observation, in-depth interview, and documentary study. The result shows that Balinese diaspora in
Jakarta was simplifying their tradition and also the ngayah tradition in piodalan ceremony, in which it contained a communicative
situation, communicative events, and communicative acts.
