Abstract:
The Taiwan issue has always been the most sensitive and important core part of Sino US relations. The different stages of the development of Sino US relations are closely related to the handling of the Taiwan issue between China and the United States. From the perspective of international relations, Sino US relations are very complicated. Because of the Taiwan factor, Taiwan has a special relationship with the United States. It can be said that the trend of the Taiwan issue has always affected Sino US relations. Starting from the historical background of the Taiwan issue, this paper introduces the origin of the Taiwan issue, briefly analyzes the importance of Taiwan, and focuses on the impact of changes in the Taiwan issue on Sino US relations from 2013 to 2016. Since Xi Jinping took office as China's new national leader in 2013, Obama attached great importance to Sino US relations and maintained a positive attitude towards solving the Taiwan issue. During 2013-2016, China and the United States reached consensus on various aspects of the Taiwan issue, which provides an important reference value for the peaceful settlement of the Taiwan issue. Therefore, this paper selects 2013-2016 as the key research. This paper points out that although the "China Threat Theory" still exists in the United States during the Obama period, it does not affect the adjustment of Obama's Taiwan policy, which provides the necessary external conditions for the peaceful settlement of the Taiwan issue. At the same time, Xi Jinping adheres to the principle of "one China" and adheres to the "92 consensus" and "peaceful reunification" program, laying the foundation for the development of Sino US relations.
