Abstract:
The utilization of soft power by South Korea is very powerful because it attracts the world’s attention to see South Korea from the positive side. Although in fact, South Korea is in a dispute with North Korea, but the public will still look at it from a positive view because of the presence of the Korean wave. The ability of South Korea to use their cultural products as the tool of public diplomacy is the specialty of South Korea. Even, the foreign policy of South Korea to increase its tourism sector is achieved by advancing its public diplomacy through the Korean wave. Therefore, the objective of this research is to see the influence of the Korean wave in the form of K-drama and K-pop on the increasing number of Indonesian tourists to South Korea. Thus, this research lifts the research question: How Does the Korean wave Influence the Number of Indonesian Tourists in 2015-2019? The researcher will answer this research question in a comprehensive way using a research qualitative method and analyze it using three theories, namely soft power, public diplomacy, and cultural diplomacy. Furthermore, the data sources will be collected through the data from Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) in Indonesia. The results of this research show that the use of the Korean wave in the form of drama and music as the tool of public diplomacy is suitable and it leads to the increasing number of Indonesian tourists to South Korea year to year (2015-2019).
