Abstract:
This thesis describes the creation of “Pengen_Tau” series of astronomy motion
graphic videos which is intended for Senior High School Students aged 14-18. The
creation of the motion graphic video series is using the Sitepu’s (2004) theories
about design principles, Thomas and Johnston’s (1981) 12 animation principles,
French’s (2017) tips on creating a successful motion graphic, Interaction Design
Foundation’s (2019) theories about flat design, Martin’s (2018) theories on
application of flat design for infographics, and taking cues from Magnamesia’s (2012)
and Koto et al.’s (2016) study on utilizing multimedia to convey astronomy, alongside
with study on motion graphic Youtube Channels Kurzgesagt, Ted-Ed, Facts in Motion,
and Kok Bisa. Research on SIRIUS Astronomy Club from SMAN 89 also held for
getting information on target audience’s preferences, which are Indonesian Senior
High School students aged 14-18. All of these studies resulted in “Pengen_Tau”
astronomy motion graphic video series, and succeed in delivering the astronomy
science through multimedia in a form of motion graphic video for the target
audience.
