Abstract:
Purpose – Mobile payment is a payment system via mobile phone, proven to be more effective and efficient compared with other conventional payments method. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the factors which influence technology adoption of mobile payment through an extended version of Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT-2) with innovativeness and trust.
Design/methodology/approach - A survey method was used and questionnaire form as the instrument tool was released. By using purposive sampling technique, the questionnaire filled up by 500 mobile payment users in Greater Jakarta, Indonesia. The data collected were analyzed with the structural equation model.
Findings - The findings revealed that the factors influencing behavioral intention to adopt technology of mobile payment are habit, innovativeness, and trust.
Practical implications – Mobile payment adoption is still low in Indonesia; Therefore, it is important to understand the customer’s behavior regarding the technology adoption. The finding of this study can be used to develop strategies in attracting more mobile payment users and sustain in the competitive industry.
Originality/value - This study is the first to combine innovativeness, trust, and UTAUT-2 model in mobile payment adoption.
