Abstract:
Cultural diplomacy is a category of Soft Power in the implementation of a country's
foreign policy. One of the cultural diplomacy instruments used by Indonesia to the
Republic of Korea is Indonesian Traditional Culture. The Cultural Diplomacy used
in promoting Indonesian tourism in the Republic of Korea. Indonesian's Cultural
diplomacy aims to win the hearts and minds of foreign tourist’s thereby increasing
interaction and cooperation with the Republic of Korea.
Using the theory of diplomacy is the concept of soft power, the perspective of
Cultural Diplomacy, and the Cultural Iceberg Model, this research obtained data
through literature studies and direct research to the Ministry of Tourism of
Indonesia.
The research shows that Indonesian's Cultural diplomacy have been done through
annual festivals serving Indonesian cultural such as Indonesia Cultural
Performances, participation of Indonesian government in annual Tourism festival
and Travel Fair Show held by the Republic of Korea and increasing the number of
foreign tourists from the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Indonesia. It was
also found that the implementation of cultural diplomacy impacts the level of
promotions of Indonesian Tourism Destinations to the Republic of Korea and
attracted the interest of the Republic of Korea tourists to visit Indonesia under the
first term of President Joko Widodo administration.
